Drawbacks of Google Chrome Netbook

on May 2011, it was announced that Google will launch its much awaited Google Chrome Netbook. A lot of people have been waiting for the Google Netbook since 2010, when the idea of this computer was announced. There are several advantages and disadvantages of these computer over the ones operated with Microsoft OS. Here is a quick look at the major drawbacks of Google Chrome Netbook.

  • No Desktop
As Google Chrome Netbook is a browser based computer and stores all the data in Google's "Cloud" instead of a hard drive, therefore there is no desktop. A traditional user may look at it as a drawback since most of the computer users have grown accustomed to having a desktop with icons and taskbar.
  • Less applications
Google Chrome Netbook has very few applications in it and everything has to be loaded off the Internet. For some who has a slow internet connection, it can be quite troublesome to load applications on the internet.
  • Media Playback
When a user has to play some media, he is at the mercy of a web based media player as there is no media application.
  • Less local storage
Suppose if a user is running low on space in his SD card and wants to move the pictures from the SD card to the computer. If he has no internet connection, he will not be able to transfer any data from the SD card. It can be quite a big drawback, since sometimes you cannot have internet access at some places because they are underdeveloped.
  • No pre-installed office application
It can be one of the most irritating things for the people who have to do some work on a document or have to prepare a spreadsheet. Without an internet connection the Google Chrome Netbook is as good as nothing.
  • No Games
The computer is not made for aspirant gamers. One can play games on the internet. However, if you want to play games with high graphics requirement then this is not the computer for you.
  • Long term costs
At the first sight the computer seems very economical at $300-$450, but it is important that you measure other cost connected with the computer. The primary cost would be of internet. If you are using internet for doing everything, you will have to pay lots of money for the internet. However, it depends on your internet connection and cost plan.
  • No programming
The computer is just a browser and you cannot create even the simplest of application with Google Chrome Netbook.
